How does the ERE chain work?
And where is the complexity?
EREs are not simple green certificates. Behind one tradable unit are legislation, metering data, evidence, REV administration, verification and a market transaction. Here is the chain, with official sources.

THE BASIS
From policy to
tradable value.
The Dutch ERE system is part of the fuel transition obligation. Companies with an obligation need sufficient emission reduction and can obtain EREs by creating eligible units or buying them from other market participants.
The NEa runs the system, manages the REV and supervises compliance. The REV — Register Energy for Transport — is where eligible deliveries are booked and EREs are recorded.

THE CHAIN

Electricity
Electricity is delivered to a vehicle or mobile machine in a way that can qualify for booking.

Metering
The relevant kWh volume must be measurable and traceable to the transport use.

Booking
An authorised party records the delivery in the REV and receives ERE-E.

Verification
The administration and bookings are independently verified each year.

Trading
EREs can be transferred to parties that need them within the relevant sector.

Internal electric transport is our commercial core. That is where we want to make the biggest difference: large fleets, many operating hours and an existing electricity flow that has not yet been organised as an ERE chain.

It is in the provable kWh.
Metered delivery point
The point where electricity is delivered to the vehicle or mobile machine and the quantity is measured.
MID and exclusivity
Where a connection or secondary allocation point is not exclusively for transport, the applicable MID metering requirements must be met.
Renewable share
The renewable share and its evidence affect the number of EREs that can be booked.
Calendar year
Mandates apply to full calendar years and cannot be silently renewed. A company can appoint only one booking service provider per calendar year.
